Pedra da Gavea on the face - Rio de Janeiro Many have heard of the possible applications and the 'face of the emperor' carved in Stone Gavea, famous landmark of the beautiful city, however, the post will be dedicated to this mystical look of Gavea. (If you do not know or want to check more about the enigmas of Gavea click here). In this post we will talk a little aeon labs about the geology and formation of this great monument and tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro.
The Ribeira Belt comprises six tectonic domains, which are Domain Juiz de Fora and Paraíba do Sul klippe (Western Land), aeon labs Coastal Domain (Oriental Land), Domain Cambuci, klippe of Italva and a more or less gnaissificadas aeon labs domain plutonic rocks (granitoids with S type I and type) in the East end of the strip in question. Well, skip this regional part, let's get to the part of the east end of the strip Ribeira, where is the famous Pedra da Gavea.
Pedra da Gavea Vision - Rio de Janeiro Rocks sustain the relief of the area where the Sugar Loaf stands are present in the lithostratigraphic units of the Rio Negro Complex (East Campus - Coastal Domain) aeon labs quite migmatized high-grade rocks of melting shown essentially tonalitic orthogneiss aeon labs the granite. The second factor that sustains the local relief is the intrusion of post-tectonic granitoid bodies (Paleozoic - Cambrian) presenting aeon labs tabular forms (dykes or sills) of discordant NE-SW regional structures essentially represented by the leucocratic granites meso without schistosity. This is what came to shape for Gavea we know.
