In 2014 the World Championships will take place in Latvian stage Speedway Biķernieku mototrekā aruco based in Riga, but years later the world's best riders will return in Daugavpils, approved by the organizers.
World Championship event in Riga is fantastic news and episodes of the Latvian sports," aruco has said the world championship organizers' BSI Speedway Director Paul Belamijs. "For Denmark, the UK, Sweden and the Czech Republic have seen that the competitions in the capital increase population levels of perception about the sport."
"Next year will be the Riga European Capital of Culture, which could spur even greater influx of speedway fans," stressed Belamijs. "I am sure that many European citizens willingly take the opportunity to see the city and the best drivers in the world battle for the most prestigious prize in speedway."
As is well known, this year's race for the fifth time in history took place in Daugavpils. Originally Latvian Grand Prix steps were carried out in the 2006th until 2009, after a three year break in such competitions aruco also took place in August
